Welcome to our 2018 Cooling Vest Guide

Who are cooling vests for?

At My Cooling Store, we have cooling vests available for a range of activities and uses.
  • Construction workers, gardeners and anyone else who works outside during the summer
  • Military personnel
  • People suffering from medical conditions with heat sensitivity
  • Motorcyclists
  • Sportsmen and sportswomen
  • Emergency Services
  • Anyone who wants to enjoy the summer without being overwhelmed by heat

How do they work?

We have 3 styles of cooling vests which work in different ways to help you keep your cool.

Evaporative Cooling Vests

These use the natural process of evaporation to cool you down. When these vests are placed into water, the specially made non-toxic cooling crystals or specialized cooling fabric absorbs hundreds of times their weight in water. This stored water is then slowly released by the process of evaporation. In hot conditions, this water will start to evaporate. As it does, the heat from the wearer is transferred into the air helping to reduce your temperature.
  • Lightweight.
  • Easy to use throughout the day. If it dries out all you have to do is submerge into water for hours more cooling.
  • No electricity is required making them perfect for people on the move.
  • The most affordable form of cooling vest.
  • Not as effective in high humidity

Phase Changing Vests

These non-toxic vests have a large pocket front and back in which a refrigerated, frozen, water or air conditioned cooled pack can be inserted. This flexible cooled pack will then help reduce the wearers’ temperature for up to 4 hours. These inserts can be refrozen as and when necessary. Each vest comes with one set of packs. For all-day cooling, we suggest ordering extra packs which can be kept in a freezer or cooler until it is necessary to exchange them.
  • Hard wearing.
  • Works in high humidity.
  • Each cool pack can be reused.
  • Does not produce condensation.
  • Typically provides a cooler temperature than evaporative cooling vests.

Circulatory (Pumped Water) Cooling Shirts

These are the most advanced and the coolest of the cooling vests. Based on technology developed by NASA, these shirts work by circulating cool water through non-kink tubing around the wearer’s body. As this water moves through the system it takes the heat away from the body cooling you down. This water then flows back through the System Unit to a reserve of ice cold water. The circulating water automatically cools before being re-circulated around the vest.
  • Come in different power options including 12v, battery and a standard outlet.
  • Provide a cooler temperature than both evaporative and phase changing cooling vests.
  • Works in high humidity.

The best brands available are Cool Shirt, Veskimo, and Kewl Flow.

These vests will feature a set non-toxic and freezable inserts. It is also made of evaporative materials that can be utilized when one is unable to refreeze the cool packs. This vest uses the same specially made non-toxic absorbent cooling crystals or specialized absorbent cooling fabrics featured in the most evaporative vest.

  • Typically provides a cooler temperature than evaporative cooling vests.

My Cooling Store's 2018 Cooling Towel Guide

My Cooling Store's 2018 Cooling Towel Guide

Welcome to the Buyer's Guide for our large selection of cooling towels. We realize that cooling towels may be a new product to many of our customers so we hope this guide will help to find the correct product for your needs. We realize that this guide is called cooling "towels" but our customers often include cooling neck wraps and bandanas in the same category so this guide will include details them as well. Let's start with a list of the different materials commonly used in cooling products:

1. PVA
2. Microfiber
3. Cooling Gel Beads
4. Hybrid
5. Ice Bands
6. Pre-Soaked Cotton Terry Cloth Instant Cooling Towels

Now here is a more detailed breakdown of the different materials:

1. PVA Cooling Products
PVA (Polyvinyl Acetate) is a material used in many of the cooling products. This material is super absorbent, which means that it will retain water for a long period of time and thus provide cooling for much longer than standard fabrics. What's even better about PVA is that it is often dry to the touch. As long as the material isn't completely saturated with water, you can wrap it around your neck without getting soaked! PVA towels are great options for activities where you will be exposed to the heat for an extended period of time. If the PVA towel starts to get warm or dry out, you can simply wet it, wring it out, and wave it in the air like a helicopter to re-activate the cooling properties.

Our Favorites:
1. AlphaCool PVA Cooling Towel
2. Chill-Its Instant Cooling Towel
3. Occunomix PVA Cooling Towel
4. O2 Cool ArctiCloth Sport Cooling Towels

Pros:
-Super-absorbent material retains water for long periods
-Long lasting cool
-Reusable
-Machine Washable
-Customization with logos possible

Cons:
-Towels become rigid when they dry out
-Color selections are more limited in most brands

2. Microfiber Cooling Products
AlphaCool Microfiber Instant Cooling Towels

Microfiber cooling products such as cooling towels, cooling neck bands, and cooling bandanas utilize some of the same concepts as the PVA towels above. The microfiber design uses specialized fabrics that retain water much better than standard towels/rags. The microfiber is also very soft to the touch which makes them popular solutions for athletes. The microfiber cooling towels do not become rigid/stiff when they dry out like the PVA towels so some people prefer them simply due to this fact. However, the microfiber cooling towels generally do not provide the same duration of cooling as the PVA towels. Microfiber is still a great option, and they can be easily reactivated by dipping in cool water.

Our Favorites:
1. AlphaCool Microfiber Cooling Towel
2. Mission EnduraCool Microfiber Towel
3. Chill-Its Microfiber Towel
4. MagicCool Microfiber Towel

Pros:
-Ultra-soft fabric
-Provides cooling longer than standard fabrics
-Reusable
-Machine Washable
-Customization with logos possible

Cons:
-Cooling doesn't last as long as some other options

3. Cooling Gel Bead Products

MiraCool Cooling Headband

Some cooling products contain cooling gel beads. These are common in cooling neck ties and cooling bandanas. The gel beads are very small but they increase up to 100 times their original size when they become wet. There are dozens of the gel beads in this type of cooling product, and the beads act together to create a large gel layer that feels great around your head or neck. This gel pad feels much cooler than the surrounding air and provides long-lasting cool. Many of these products are 30-40 inches in length which give the user enough room to tie them in place. Common applications for the cooling gel products are construction, yard work, or basically any activity where the user will be outside for an extended period of time. The main drawback to this type of cooling product is that the gel pads can become a bit slimy after repeated use.

Our Favorites:
1. Chill-Its Neck Coolers
2. MiraCool Deluxe Cooling Bandana
3. Occunomix Cooling Headband
4. Occunomix Deluxe Cooling Headband

Pros:
-Inexpensive
-Long lasting cooling
-Reusable
-Great solution for workforce or bulk purchases
-Customization with logos possible

Cons:
-After many uses, gel beads become less absorbent

4. Hybrids with PVA and Microfiber
MiraCool PVA Microfiber 2-in-1 Cooling Towel
Since both PVA and Microfiber cooling products are very popular for their individual reasons, some manufacturers have begun to create hybrid products to provide the best of both worlds! The hybrids often contain a strip of PVA material in addition to either a microfiber or standard cotton. The PVA portion provides the super-absorbent capability and long-lasting cool. The microfiber gives the soft feel that so many consumers enjoy. When added together, you get an ultra-soft comfortable product that retains water for long periods providing long-lasting cooling!

Our Favorites:
1. AlphaCool Ultra Neck Cooler
2. Chill-Its Cooling Bandana w/ PVA
3. Radians Cooling Headband
4. MiraCool Evaporative Cooling 2-in-1 Towel

These products are generally comprised of a soft cotton fabric with an internal pocket that holds the removable ice packs. The ice bands provide extreme cooling and make great options for post-workout, muscle treatment, or for a quick cool down on the job site. The ice packs need to be frozen, so access to a freezer is a necessity for these products.

2. Icy-Cools Ice Bandana
3. Black Ice Personal Cooling System

Beat The Heat This Summer!

6 Super Tips to Beat the Heat and Stay Cool

The spring and summer months are full of fun and sun, but with the sun comes the heat. The summer heat can be dangerous to us all, especially our pets, the young, poor, and elderly. Heat illnesses are caused by a combination of Dehydration and prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures. Heat illnesses can be divided into many different conditions like Heat rash, Heat cramps, Heat exhaustion, and Heat Stroke. Heat Stroke can be deadly, however it can be easily prevented. We have assemble 6 Super Cool Tips to help you or your loved ones beat the heat.

1.    Drink plenty of fluids. Your body’s mechanism of cooling itself off is by sweating. The body is unable to cool itself off as efficiently in hot and humid temperatures. When sweating, you are losing mainly sodium and water. It is important to replace your electrolytes and fluids to keep the body balanced and to avoid dehydration or a heat related illness. Staying hydrated will help your body sweat and maintain a normal body temperature. Drink a quart of fluids an hour or drink enough water to prevent thirst. Avoid alcoholic beverages the day before or the day of. If your doctor has told you to limit fluids because of a health condition, be sure to check with them about how much extra you need to drink when the temperature rises.
2.    Use cooling aids and wear loose fitting, lightweight, light-colored clothing. Excess, dark or tight clothing holds in heat and doesn't let your body cool properly because it inhibits sweat evaporation. The use of cooling aids such as personal misters, cooling towels, cooling hats, and cooling bandannas will help maintain your comfort and a healthy body temperature while exposed to high temperatures.
3.    Seek Shade or a cooler place. Being in an air-conditioned building, even for just a few hours, is one of the best ways to prevent heat exhaustion. If your home doesn't have an air conditioner, consider spending time at a library or shopping mall. At the very least, find a well-shaded spot. Fans alone aren't adequate to counter high heat and humidity.
4.    Maintain a well balanced diet. Eat at least five cups of fruits and vegetables per day for optimum health, as they all contain various levels of water and the all-important nutrient potassium.
5.    Avoid hot spots. On a hot day, the temperature in your parked car can rise 20 F (11 C) in just 10 minutes. Let your car cool off before you drive it. Never leave children or anyone else in a parked car in hot weather for any period of time.
6.    Avoid sunburn. If you're going to be outdoors, wear a lightweight, wide-brimmed hat or use an umbrella to protect yourself from the sun, and apply sunscreen to any exposed skin. Having a sunburn reduces your body's ability to rid itself of heat.

With temperatures rising, so does the risk of heat related illnesses. Know the signs and symptoms of heat illness like Muscle Cramps,Nausea, Vomiting, Headaches, Dizziness, Dry Mouth, Lightheadedness, Skin not as elastic, and Dark urine color. These signs can indicate the onset of heat illness. Be cautious and remember these six tips and your summer days will be safe and comfortable.

Hey Philly! Take A Beach Day!!!

A Day Tripper's Guide To The Beaches of Philadelphia

Everyone loves a day at the beach, right? Of course! I know I do. However, many residents here, in the City of Brotherly Love, do not seem to get to the sand and sun as often as others. A few days ago, I had a heartfelt conversation with a close and personal friend of mine, her name is Lisa. She works as a social worker here in Philadelphia. Lisa told me about a conversation she had with a young mother. This young mother was inquiring about activities she can do with her children during their summer break. Lisa likes to display many family pictures in her office and on this particular day the young mother noticed a picture Lisa had taken during a day trip to a local beach. The young mother then went on to tell Lisa that she had never been to the beach a day in her life! Lisa found this utterly shocking.

Without getting into the socio-economic mumbo jumbo that makes a situation like this possible, Lisa and I realized that people like this mother may not know how to do a beach day trip from Philly properly. Philadelphia is surrounded by some of the best beaches on the east coast. So with that in mind, we decided to put our heads together for the greater good of families all over Philadelphia. We came up with this pocket guide to a day at  the beach for the everyday Philadelphian. We did research on everything, from travel methods to where to buy the best quality and most affordable products to enhance your day at the beach.

Shore Transit

Philadelphia is situated right in the middle wall of beach destinations. Most of the “local” beaches are located east of the city  in the Garden State of New Jersey, with a few sandy gems to the south in Sussex County, the southernmost county in the great state of Delaware. These shoreside oases may sound close but they are a few dozen or more miles away from center city. If you have access to a vehicle then that’s not a major issue for you. If you plan on driving then I would suggest leaving as early as possible. Beach traffic can be stressful. If you don’t have a car or you don’t want to deal with the hassles of traffic navigation, we got you covered there too. There are great public transit options available to both the New Jersey and Delaware beaches.

The Delaware beaches are some of the best quality beaches in the country. Most Delaware beaches are not as crowded as the Jersey beaches. The best way to get there is in a car. I recommend signing up for Zipcar Car Share service. You can rent locally parked new cars by the hour or for the day for a nominal fee.

No driver’s license to get a rental, no worries. SEPTA has a regional rail line that stops in Wilmington, Delaware. Once in Wilmington, you can catch the route 305 Bus from Wilmington to Rehoboth. Once in Rehoboth you can take the DART Resort Transit lines to the different beaches and attractions in southern Delaware.  For more detailed pricing information please contact DART First State at (800) 652-DART(3278) or online at www.dartfirststate.com.

Most folks in Philly are pretty familiar with the New Jersey Transit bus service lines to the shore. You’ve got the 317 Bus that will take you to Asbury Park Beach, the 316 bus that takes you to the Wildwood Beaches and Cape May Beaches, and finally the 551 that takes you to Atlantic City. All those busses depart from the Philadelphia Greyhound Bus Terminal downtown at 15th and Filbert Streets. You can buy tickets for you and your family from the NJ Transit Kiosk in the bus boarding area. You can also take the NJ Transit train from Philadelphia’s 30th Street Station to Atlantic City as well. Tickets for the train can be purchased in the main concourse area from the NJ transit Kiosk near the Amtrak ticket counters.  Once at the Jersey Shore there are many ways to get around locally, from cabs, to push-carts on the boardwalk, and the world famous Jitney buses. For ticket details and schedule information please contact NJ Transit at 1-973-275-5555 or online at www.njtransit.com.

Let’s Get Comfortable

Now that we made it to the beach and found our perfect patch of sand, we are going to need some comfy seating options. If you're like my friend, sunbathing is the best part of a beach trip. Sand can be a welcomed sight upon arrival to your favorite beach location, but soon after settling into you spot, the sand begins to invade. It gets into your shoes, hair, towels, and even your plate of grub. There are many trendy and “different” looking seating options available, and they are affordable as well.

One way to avoid the sand invasion is to set up your beach oasis by laying down the CGear Sand Free Mat. The CGear Sand-Free "Quicksand Mat" is designed for the beach and other outdoor activities. Sand falls straight through the Quicksand Mat and doesn’t come back up. This square mat comes in three sizes; 6ft, 8ft and 10ft. The patented multi weave layers trap the sand underneath the mat ensuring a sand free day at the beach. The MAT has a dual layer weave which is resilient and developed to place picnic chairs and tables on a solid ground. We recommend that you lay on top of a towel or blanket should you wish to lay directly on the mat to add more comfort.

For those who like a little more pop and pizzazz, there is the trendy Islander LED Light Up Outdoor Beach/Camping Blanket by Eagles Nest Outfitters. This 6ft square beach blanket is traveling party! The Islander is trimmed with a string of bright, fun LED lights to make a statement at any of the local beaches. This blanket sets up in a pinch and packs down into a convenient stuff sack for efficient portability. You can sit on it, dance on it, sleep on it, or sleep under it! This item is sure to make your beach trip awesome well into the night. Both of these items can be found at www.thewarmingstore.com starting at $59.

Now that we have beaten back those sand demons, we can finally take a proper seat and enjoy the sun’s warm embrace. One thing that is a beach must is having somewhere to sit, lounge and soak up the sun. The folks at GoTeam have some great products that will keep you comfortable all day at the shore. The GoTeam Portable Reclining Pop Chair is the ideal portable comfort option for an incredible beach trip. This is portable recliner chair we all have been dreaming about. Available in blue, black, and red colors, each pop chair folds down to a flat ovular shape and includes an easy-carrying shoulder strap. Weighing in under 4.5 pounds, the pop chair offers a click-lock reclining system allowing you to set the perfect angle of the backrest. The Pop chair is the ultimate comfy beach chair. For those parents who want to chill and keep an eye on the kids, GoTeam developed a Portable Double Folding Chair. Each Double Folding Chair folds down to a compact size and fits into an included matching carrying case for easy . But that’s not all! GoTeam threw in a detachable umbrella to keep you shaded on those hot summer days and the Double Folding Chair features a center armrest which doubles as a cooler for storing your ice cold beverages. You never have to get up and go to a cooler again! Load it up with some ice and a 6 pack and call it a day! GoTeam’s Double Folding Chair is a complete beach oasis in a case and is backed up by a 3 year warranty as well. You can buy the GoTeam Portable Reclining Pop Chair on www.Walmart.com for $34 and the GoTeam Double Folding Chair at www.Vandue.com for $39.

Made in the Shade

Don’t get me wrong, I love having fun in the sun as much as the next guy. However, in addition to proper sunscreen use, having a good source of shade is essential to having safe and comfortable family beach outing. Rio Beach is an outstanding company that manufactures high quality beach accessories. Among the many different beach products they offer, their Portable Sun Shelters and Beach Cabana Tents are some of the best values on the market. They are constructed of durable 75-denier polyester shades and they also offer great sun protection with an SPF of 50. Other useful features include built in mesh windows to promote cooling airflow and interior pockets for storage purposes. These practical and novel beach accessories are available in various colors and sizes on www.Swimoutlet.com starting at $35.

Lose Weight By Chilling Out, Literally!

Introducing The Cold Shoulder Calorie Burning Vest

There is a new weight loss technique taking the world by storm. The new Cold Shoulder Calorie Burning Vest employs the new weight loss technique of mild cold exposure. This vest was designed and created by NASA Scientist & Professor Dr. Wayne B. Hayes and uses mild cold exposure can enhance calorie burn in the body.

The use of cold exposure induced calorie burn has been studied for years now, and the evidence has shown this technique to be effective. You don’t need to be a scientist to understand how cold exposure works.  For example, Olympic swimmers burn many more calories per day than other Olympic athletes, and it has nothing to do with the exercise. It’s the water. They spend their day in water that’s 20 degrees (F) below their body temperature, and this temperature difference makes them burn way more calories than the exercise alone.

The Cold Shoulder Vest capitalizes on this basic principle by using the most advanced cold therapy available today, their patented CryoMAX® “Points of Cold” Technology. Each vest is uniquely configured not as a solid block of frozen liquid; but as small, rounded, frozen water-filled capsules arranged in rows and separated by space in which a non-toxic and non-freezing formulated liquid allows for a more body-conforming fit making The Cold Shoulder vests one of the more comfortable vests to wear.

Unlike conventional cold packs used in other vests that act by freezing underlying tissue and blood vessels, CryoMAX® “Points of Cold” Technology absorbs body heat without interfering with the body’s natural processes. Cold Shoulder’s Exclusive and patented CryoMAX®“Points-of-Cold” Technology distributes cooling evenly in rows of frozen liquid separated by non-freezing channels. The vest also features special pockets in the vest that allow heat to be drawn out and away from the body as blood flows freely through the areas which are not frozen. This configuration causes the body to respond by utilizing energy to maintain body temperature creating THERMOGENESIS. This process will help you shed more calories over time.
